![]() Adobe Graphic Design Series Of HandsHonestly I think it's a skill that all graphic designers should have. I think of UX as more of a skill or specialization of graphic design. I could see how it would be jarring though switching from one to another.Lots of people keep bringing up UX. ![]() I need to be able to run adobe illustrator / photoshop but for the most part i don't want to go through the hassle of rejigging a windows machine to avoid issues when coding for linux (which is primarily what majority of servers are running).Despite the lower specs i have concluded that in terms of balance and performance that macbook pros seem to offer the best value for designers / developers though as i have conceded before:For example perhaps some people might not be as concerned with battery life, in that case more powerful components and thus performance would be an option.I agree with a lot of your points, but you're oversimplifying why people buy MacBooks. It is designed to promote efficiency in a specific type of workflow, which may seem trivial to some but a timesaver to others. My own reason for looking at a macbook pro after years of dealing with other laptops is that after a thorough investigation of pretty much all the options it is the best solution for me as a fullstack dev. Im a long time windows user but ill be looking for a macbook soon :PFirstly i should clarify im ONLY talking about the laptop space here, if you're fine with a desktop then build your own, and run windows, no question or doubt that's the best choice. Not saying that they don't design and source out good hardware, but I'm tired of Apple's marketing department distorting the truth.Citing that brands use the same ODM for assembly has nothing to do with product design itself, nor component design, nor quality assurance testing the machines are put through. As you say you must compare on a product by product basis, so name me another machine that is unix based, does not feature the best hardware specs but still sells for alot of money? Dell developer edition would be a contender except that it does not occupy the same premium marketspace. As to why apple products sell for a lot of money the answer is simple. Emulator nds for macI'm not saying that designing a laptop, assembling it, and creating an operating system is trivial by any means, just that other companies selling laptops are doing the exact same thing and sometimes they best Apple. To be honest I'm not exactly sure what components they specifically manufacture. On my desktop. The point I was making is that Apple's laptops are mostly using 3rd party parts (CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, even motherboard components) and Apple is just designing the layout as well as the motherboard and a few parts. I can run OS X, Windows, Linux, BSD, etc. Plus, you can run any operating system that you want to (that is x86 compatible) on a MacBook.Again, I haven't tested all of the laptops on the market, but I'm sure there are at least a handful that are better designed, have better specs, and are better quality than Apple for an equitable price point. The operating system is also sort of a separate discussion.
